As the project manager for a dynamic design team at the Barbados Red Cross Society, I led a talented group of creatives in transforming the organization’s digital presence. Our goal was to modernize the website to better align with its mission, develop a strategic and impactful social media plan, and create engaging multimedia content that highlights its vital humanitarian programs. Balancing leadership with my design expertise, I ensured that every visual and strategic decision contributed to a cohesive and compelling brand experience.

Logo Design

While the Barbados Red Cross adhered to strict branding guidelines set by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRCS), I ensured that our designs maintained both balance and innovation within these constraints. As a designer, I focused on creating visuals that were not only compliant but also reflective of Barbados’ unique identity.

Although the primary logo followed a simple badge format with the Red Cross symbol and text, we sought to offer the organization a more personalized visual presence. One of our standout designs featured a palm tree with the Red Cross at its center, encircled by the words "Barbados Red Cross," incorporating local elements to create a stronger cultural connection. Additionally, we extended the branding to support key initiatives, developing distinct logos for programs like ‘Meals on Wheels’ and the ‘Youth Program.’ This approach provided the organization with a versatile and cohesive brand system, reinforcing its identity across various outreach efforts.

UI Design

After extensive collaboration with the client and the UX/UI designer, we used Figma to create high-fidelity screens, carefully structuring content and organizing multimedia elements. While I played a key role in driving the design process, I worked closely with the team to ensure that the wireframes and layouts maintained a strong visual balance. We made sure the color scheme adhered to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRCS) guidelines, ensuring consistency with the organization’s established brand identity.

In our efforts to make the website feel authentic and engaging, we incorporated a wealth of photography gathered during our time in Barbados. We wanted the site to highlight not only the impactful work of the Red Cross but also the people behind the scenes and the communities being helped. These visual elements allowed us to tell a richer story of the organization’s mission, while our layout choices ensured a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Social Media Strategy

We worked diligently to craft a comprehensive social media calendar, strategically scheduling content to maximize engagement and expand the organization’s reach across platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook. While my social media manager focused on developing content calendars, captions, and hashtag strategies, I took the reins on designing the visual content. I made sure that every post adhered to a cohesive color scheme to maintain brand consistency and included key elements like the primary logo, the Barbados Red Cross website, and the contact number. These design decisions ensured that each post not only aligned with the organization’s branding but also provided clear, actionable information for the audience. Together, we created a dynamic and visually unified social media presence that showcased the organization’s mission and broadened its digital footprint.

Website Development

Despite time constraints, our team, in collaboration with our web developer, successfully brought the redesigned website to life in WordPress using Elementor. While we weren’t able to implement every planned feature within the project timeline, we made significant strides in transforming the site into a modern and responsive platform. The UI wireframes were effectively translated into a functional design, setting the foundation for the organization’s online presence. Though the site isn’t live yet, the work we accomplished provides a strong stepping stone for future development, ensuring that the Barbados Red Cross will be well-positioned for success in the digital space.

Film Production

We documented the Barbados Red Cross Society’s vital programs, including Meals on Wheels, First Aid, Youth, and Disaster Management, through a series of impactful videos. These videos were designed not only to raise awareness but also to visually capture the heart of the organization’s work, showcasing the dedicated individuals behind these initiatives and the communities they serve. By leading the creative direction, I ensured that each video aligned with the brand’s visual identity, effectively conveying the organization’s mission while engaging viewers.

Working on this project was an incredibly rewarding experience that pushed me both as a leader and a designer. Balancing creative vision with strategic execution, I learned how to navigate branding constraints while still finding ways to bring personality and authenticity into the work. From refining my UI design approach to crafting impactful social media content and overseeing film production, every aspect of this project reinforced the importance of thoughtful, user-centered design. As I continue to take on new challenges, this experience has shaped the way I approach storytelling, collaboration, and problem-solving in design.
